John Rice is the product of his father sitting him on the couch for countless hours of black and white classics. The result is a unique mix of joy and intelligence that forms the foundation for his cinematic education. After not being able to afford film school at the School of Visual Arts, John pursued his love of film in a much different way: through literature. After applying critical literary theory to film for essays over the course of two English degrees at Queens College, he’s now doing it outright for this podcast. He holds the distinction of (possibly) being the only guest writer to write a haiku on Brian’s Criterion Collection As Haiku blog.
